North Shropshire Bike Ride

Shropshire
21st June 2020

The Ride

One day of beautiful Shropshire scenery
21st June 2020
7:15 am

After a blisteringly successful first year, we're ready for another exciting ride! Book off the 21st June 2020 because whether you’re out to set a record time or just want to take in the scenery and enjoy all that North Shropshire has to offer, our ride caters for all cycling abilities. With approximately only 2000ft of gained elevation over 85 miles, our ride through North Shropshire can be considered reasonably flat.

Our sportive ride starts in the heart of Shropshire in Market Drayton. We then head to the village of Cheswardine and on to the first feed and water stop in Newport. It's then on to Wem via Edgmond and Tibberton. Hope House is our next destination. The journey there showcases some breathtaking scenery and the occasional small climb. After leaving Hope House, riders pass though the centre of Oswestry before heading off to the picturesque village of Whittington. A short flat ride is followed by the biggest climb of the day; 200 feet of elevation over 1.5 miles. There then follows a rapid descent in to Ellesmere where riders can enjoy a break by the famous Ellesmere Mere. After leaving Ellesmere it’s off to Whitchurch via Welshampton and Fenns Bank. Riders can enjoy their final break in Whitchurch before the final leg home to Market Drayton.

About

About Hope House Hospice

What is Hope House Hospice?

Hope House Children's Hospices - Hope House at Oswestry and Tŷ Gobaith at Conwy - provide care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families from Shropshire, Cheshire, and North & Mid Wales.

A range of services is offered, including respite and end-of-life care at the hospices and/or within the family home, and support such as counselling, advocacy and the promotion of children, young people's and carers' rights.

The support offered includes physical, psychological and spiritual care from a team including experienced doctors, nurses and other care professionals. Support is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Shropshire Club

The Shropshire Club have been supporting Hope House though their annual ball for more than 10 years. We had a terrific turnout for our inaugural Sportive rides last year and managed not only to arrange beautiful weather but also to raise a further £12,000 for Hope House through event entries and some terrific individual fundraising.

This year we’re hoping that the greater awareness of the Ride and the way in which it was organised, will inspire those that participated last year to encourage friends and family to join them on this years routes.

Every single penny, from entrance fees and sponsorship goes directly to Hope House!

Annual Ball

The Shropshire Club was founded many years ago as a group of local businessmen who regularly met at Tern Hill Hall for a few drinks. Legend has it that their wives complained about the drinking activities and the lack of female involvement. Wishing to please the ladies in their lives the gentlemen began organising an annual ball. Over many many years the ball has grown and developed. From 2005, the club has exclusively supported Hope House; given the vital care and support they give to children and their families. In the last 14 years the members have become the biggest supporter in Shropshire raising over £400,000 to date.

The annual ball is a glamorous event held at Tern Hill Hall. It is always well supported with an entertaining auction known for attracting very generous bidders. Prizes range from a cubic metre of logs to Villa Holidays in Barbados.
